GTA 6 is eligible for The Game Awards 2026 with one day to spare

Grand Theft Auto 6 will qualify for The Game Awards 2026 by a single day, Eurogamer reports. The game launches on November 19, 2026, one day before the show's eligibility cut-off.

The timing was first pointed out on X by industry watcher Shinobi602. The Game Awards' own FAQ sets the deadline, stating that "Games must be made commercially available to customers on or before Friday, November 20, 2026, at 9pm PT."

Eurogamer places the eligibility in the context of past results. Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar's previous major release, won four awards in 2018: Best Narrative, Best Audio Design, Best Score/Music, and Best Performance for Roger Clark as Arthur Morgan. The current record belongs to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which won nine awards last year, including Game of the Year. Baldur's Gate 3 held the previous record with six.

Eurogamer discloses that it sits on The Game Awards jury alongside many other gaming outlets.

The outlet also reports that Rockstar has released a new launch trailer focused on Jason and Lucia's relationship and the pressure their criminal lives put on it. Separately, Rockstar is still in an employment tribunal in Scotland over the dismissal of 31 Rockstar North staff last year. The former employees call it union-busting, while Rockstar says they were fired for gross misconduct. According to Eurogamer, a verdict is now expected well into November, close to the game's launch.

What isn't confirmed yet

• Nominations for The Game Awards 2026 have not been announced, so it's unknown which categories GTA 6 will appear in.
• Whether the game wins anything, or approaches Clair Obscur's record, won't be known until the December 10 ceremony.
• The tribunal's outcome is still pending.
