GTA 6 platforms: PS5, Xbox, PC, PS4 and Switch 2 explained

Last verified 22 Oct 2026By HeistNotes Desk · Updated 22 Oct 2026

GTA VI launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on 19 November 2026, and nothing else. Rockstar's official site offers pre-orders for those two platforms only. Everything below sorts the other platforms into confirmed, reported and not announced, the same labels our Facts Ledger uses.

PS5 and Xbox Series X|S: confirmed

Both consoles get the game on launch day, in Standard and Ultimate editions. Whether PS5 Pro or Series X get specific enhancements over the base consoles hasn't been detailed by Rockstar; we track that on the Facts Ledger.

PC: reported for 2027, not announced

Rockstar hasn't announced a PC version. A GamesBeat report, picked up by Eurogamer, Rock Paper Shotgun and others, says a PC release is targeted for the first quarter of 2027. That fits Rockstar's pattern: GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 both came to PC a year or more after consoles. But a report is a report. Treat the date as unconfirmed until Rockstar says it, and don't buy hardware on the strength of it.

If you only play on PC, your realistic choices are to wait, or to pick up a console for launch and treat the PC version as a later replay.

PS4 and Xbox One: no

There is no last-generation version. Rockstar's site offers nothing for PS4 or Xbox One, and the game is built for current hardware. A PS4 that's been upgraded to PS5 keeps its account, saves and purchases, but the GTA VI purchase itself has to be the PS5 version.

Nintendo Switch 2: not announced

No Switch 2 version has been announced. Nothing on Rockstar's site mentions Nintendo. If that changes we'll update this guide and the Facts Ledger entry.

Cloud and streaming

Rockstar hasn't said anything about cloud versions. Whether the game appears on a streaming service depends on the publisher's deals, which are usually announced close to launch or after it.

Frequently asked

Is GTA 6 on Game Pass or PS Plus? Not announced. Rockstar has sold its games at full price at launch and added them to subscriptions much later, if at all.

Will my PS5 digital edition play it? Yes. The Standard and Ultimate editions are both sold digitally; only the disc copy needs a drive.

Is there crossplay? Not announced. Rockstar hasn't detailed GTA VI's online component yet.
