GTA 6 release time: when it unlocks in your timezone

Grand Theft Auto VI launches on Thursday 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That date is confirmed by Rockstar. The exact hour it unlocks where you live is not, yet. This guide separates the two, and the Unlock Clock turns it into a countdown for your own timezone.

What's confirmed

• The date: 19 November 2026. It's on Rockstar's official GTA VI site, which also hosts the launch trailer and takes pre-orders.
• The platforms: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Those are the only versions on sale. There is no PS4, Xbox One or PC version at launch (more in our platforms guide).

What isn't confirmed: the unlock hour

Rockstar hasn't published unlock times. Until it does, our Unlock Clock shows midnight local time on 19 November for every region and labels it Expected, because that's the most common pattern for console launches: the game unlocks at 00:00 in each territory's own time, rather than at one global moment.

That assumption can be wrong in two ways:

1. A single worldwide unlock. Some big releases unlock at one instant everywhere, which means an afternoon or evening unlock in the Americas and an early-morning one in Europe and Asia. If Rockstar announces this, the clock switches to it and the label changes to Confirmed.
2. Different hours per store. PlayStation Store and Xbox Store occasionally differ by a few hours for the same game.

We check the official site and the store listings daily. The moment an official time appears, the clock, this guide and the Facts Ledger are updated with the source.

How to be ready on the night

• Pre-order and preload. Preloading means the game downloads before launch and simply unlocks on the day. Rockstar hasn't announced the preload window; our file size and preload guide tracks it and shows how much space to clear.
• Check your console's clock and region. Digital unlocks follow your store account's region, not your physical location. If your account is set to a different country, you'll unlock on that country's schedule.
• Set a reminder. The Unlock Clock can add the unlock moment to your calendar as a .ics file or a Google Calendar event, in your own timezone.

Frequently asked

Is GTA 6 out yet? No. It launches on 19 November 2026.

Will it unlock at the same time on PS5 and Xbox? Unknown. The clock lets you pick either platform and will show different times only if the stores publish different ones.

Can I play early by changing my console region? Changing region to reach an earlier unlock is against the store terms on both platforms and can lock you out of your purchases. We don't recommend it.
